It’s the summer holiday season here, and tomorrow’s the last day of work. So here’s me making a public resolution for the break :

Before I’m back in the office on 6th January, I will have done ONE. FUCKING. PIECE. OF. WORK. on a car.

Feel free to disrespect me mercilessly if it doesn’t happen.

As far as I can recall, the last time I lifted a wrench in anger was about March, and it’s been about that long since I’ve been to the track, too. Both of which are ridiculous.

This has been a shit year, and my attention has been forcibly drawn to that fact by a workmate dying earlier this week aged 42. Life’s too short not to do the things you enjoy.

Last automotive thing I actually fixed, for your time - a/c fan on the Pajero:

This is exactly what my goal was but on day 1 we got 9 inches of snow so that’s slowed me down...

Good luck!

Snow’s not going to be the problem here. More likely will be that I get five minutes into it and realize I need a part or tool, which I then won’t be able to buy. Basically the whole country shuts down over Christmas/New Year - unless they work in big format retail or at a beach resort, all Kiwis (and Aussies for that matter) are  spending the next 2 weeks drinking too much and getting sunburnt.

Do you people use evergreen conifers as your Christmas trees or do you just use dirt and rocks?

Conifers - or at least we do in NZ: I think in Oz they’ve all burnt down by now.

Just because the seasons are backwards doesn’t mean we don’t follow the same  stupidly inappropriate traditions - we eat roast turkey and stuffing and put up with Bing Crosby going on about white Christmases just like the frozen northerners.  It’s just that afterwards we go surfing.

I still need to learn how to surf, especially since I live pretty much right  next to Huntington Beach

Can confirm that the conifer population of NSW has taken quite a roasting in recent weeks (and there’s more to burn) .

Mind you...so have the eucalypts and the koalas that used to eat them.

People deliberately choosing to live among eucalypts just does my head in. Might as well strap yourself into a tin box with several g allons of petrol and twist a key that creates a spark. Oh, wait...

Hooning in the Eucalypts (aka I Think We Are On Fire) is coming to your favourite YouTube channel in February 2020.

It’s going to be a while before I’m in a position to do that level of work - SOOOO much work to be done on the house and property first. But my target is to get myself another project car by the start of 2021. Two engine swaps in 3 weeks is a bit more enthusiastic than I’d want to be nowadays through....
